International cooperation

Cooperation with Different European Regions

Szabolcs - Szatmar - Bereg (Hungary) county

  • The cooperation is currently concentrated in commonly implementing 2 cross-border projects under the umbrella of ENI HUSKROUA 2014-2020 Program: Overcoming barriers and MOBI. Consequently, on the 3rd of June 2019, partners met in Nyiregyhaza to update the working plan of the projects.
  • In the future, new common proposals are foreseen to be elaborated under the umbrella of HUSKROUA ENI 2014-2020 Program.
  • Previously, within ENPI HUSKROUA. 2007-2013 Program, together with a local active NGO, KIUT – Záhony Regional development Agency, several projects have been implemented:
    • CBC Parliament – a virtual parliament that set up several digital instruments to communicate and exchange information in the border areas of Slovakia-Romania-Hungary-Ukraine.
    • Energy Games and European Exchange School - a cooperation platform for educational organisations in the border areas of Slovakia-Romania-Hungary-Ukraine, where Maramures County Council and the Agency for Energy Management of Maramureş joined forces in a common partnership.
    • Sustainable development of border regions ensured by an efficient functioning of the Carpathian Euroregion.
  • Cooperation within INTERREG IVC project as part of Eszak Alfold Region: Smart Europe and regions 4 GreenGrowth.
  • Honorary participation to the Carpathian Euroregion anniversary on the 14th of February 2019.

Saxony Anhalt Land (Germany)

  • The first collaborations with the Land of Saxony Anhalt in Germany started in 2011.
  • A working meeting with representatives of the state of Saxony Anhalt took place on 31st May 2017, on which occasion they discussed opportunities for collaboration especially in the field of tourism.
  • A working meeting with representatives of Saxony Anhalt took place on 14th March 2014.
  • Meeting at the level of the Maramureș County Council with a deputy from Saxony Anhalt, on the occasion of the International Fair of Traditional Products Green Week in Berlin, January 15th -28th, 2014.
  • On May 30th 2013, a representative of the Land of Saxony-Anhalt was the guest of the Maramureș County Council, and the discussions focused on areas such as tourism, culture and renewable energies.
  • Representatives of Maramureș County participated during May 2012, in the celebration of Europe Week in Magdeburg.
  • In January 2012, meetings took place between the management of the Maramureș County Council and officials of the Saxony Anhalt state, on the occasion of the participation in the Green Week in Berlin, an international fair of traditional products.
  • Between 30th November and 3rd December 2011, a first official visit to Maramureș of a representative of the German land took place

Telemark (Norway)

  • The collaboration materialized through the elaboration in partnership of the project “Restoration and revitalization of the Butchers' Bastion from Baia Mare, Maramureş”, a project that was implemented in the period 2009-2011, being financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism.
  • In October 2011, within the project Restoration and revitalization of the Butchers' Bastion in Baia Mare, a study visit of Maramureș County representatives to Norway took place, and in December 2011, a delegation from Telemark County participated in the inaugural event in Baia Mare with on this occasion, the tree of the Romanian-Norwegian friendship was planted in the inner courtyard of the Butchers' Bastion.
  • In February 2009, the Rauland Winter Festival took place, organized by Telemark University College and following the efforts made by the International Relations Office, from Maramureș County, 2 instrumentalists from Maramureș participated, on which occasion the Maramureș folklore was presented to Norwegian students and ethnographers in seminars, exchanges and performances.
  • Another important moment of the collaboration was the visit of the president of the Telemark County Council, Gunn Marit Helgesen, in Maramureș in May 2008.
  • The collaboration started during 2006 when a study visit took place in Norway of the representatives of the Maramureș County Council who had meetings with representatives of local authorities, tourist associations and experts in innovative development, visiting on this occasion mines transformed into museums, traditional wooden churches and houses. Subsequently, in 2007, the project “Maramureş Traditions Network, Romania - Telemark, Norway” was initiated, in which a delegation of specialists in the field of ethnography, crafts and folklore visited Maramureş, thus laying the foundations for a long-term collaboration with visits and participations at the Rauland Winter Festival and culminating with the joint implementation of the Restoration and Revitalization of the Butchers' Bastion project, financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism.

PROMOTING MARAMURES AT INTERNATIONAL LEVEL

Maramureș promoted in Washington D.C. during the "Alliance Gala" Event

Representatives of Maramureș participated during the 3rd-4th October 2019, in Washington (SUA) to the "Alliance Gala" Event 2019. On this occasion, Maramureș County was rewarded with the “Prize of Excellency for Promoting Economic and Cultural Opportunities”. During the events organized on the premises of the Romanian Embassy in Washington our administration had an official meeting with H.E., Mr. George Maior, and Romanian Ambassador that recognized our efforts to positively promote our county abroad.

Chișinău Investors Forum" and the Gala of Moldova Business

Between the 30th-31st of May 2019, representatives of Maramureș County Council, the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry and local businessmen participated to a an investors forum and business gala hosted by the local chamber of commerce and the mayor’s office of Chișinău. On this occasion contacts were established with the mayor of the capital city of Moldova that expressed his supported to securing twinning relations between the administrations.

Celebrating the Traditional wooden Gate in Wien

Representatives of Maramureș celebrated the woodened gate that was previously donated by our county and placed in Laaer Wald Park of Vienna during the 11th-12th of May 2019. The wooden gate was recently restored by craftsmen from Maramures and anointed by the Orthodox Church of Vienna, being widely promoted in media to the delight of the diaspora. Official meetings took place with the local administration of the districts of Vienna where topics like supporting multiculturalism were discussed.

"Fete de L’Europe" international event in Luxemburg

On the 9th of May 2019, with the support of the European Commission Representation in Romania, and the Romanian Embassy in the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, Maramures displayed within the event “Fete de L’Europe” its most valuable cultural traditions and local cuisine.

Maramureș, living presence in the hearth of Europe

Romanian Members of the European Parliament and members of our institution celebrated in Brucella, on the 28th of November 2017, 10 years since Romania became member in E.U and also the Romanian National day.

Maramureș and the traditional local products, represented in the ”Green Week” Traditional Fair in Berlin, 4 consecutive participations (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015)

  • Between 20th-29th of January 2012, Maramures was the highlight of the Green Week of Berlin, one of the most prestigious exhibition of the food, agriculture and gardening industries. Maramures was able to support the participation of several local traditional producers to this event.
  • At the 78th edition that took place on 18th-27th January 2013, Maramures supported the participation of 7 local producers from Maramures that promoted valuable products from our country: honey, dried fruits, palinka, etc. The Romanian minister of agriculture was a constant presence at the Maramures stand together with the Commissioner for Agriculture that was also from Romania.
  • At the following 2 editions that took place between the 15th-28th of January 2014 and 16th-25th of January 2015, more local producers were supported to participate and consequently the surface allocated to Maramures country was the most significant of Romania’s stand.

Traditional wooden Gate from Vienna – Diaspora Days in Vienna, 3 editions (2006, 2009 and 2010)

  • After the edition of 2006 that marked the official inauguration of the wooden gate placed in the Laaer Wald park of Vienna, in the following edition of 2009 and 2010 the event was popular midst the numerous members of the diaspora, while our representatives engaged in official meetings with the representatives of the local administration, the Romania Embassy and representatives of the local business environment.

PROJECTS THAT PROMOTED MARAMURES ABROAD

Longing for România - Maramureș and Diaspora

This project was an initiative of Maramures Country County to support those fellow countrymen that live and work abroad, being successfully financed by the Ministry of Romanians abroad. Consequently, on 16th-17th of November 2019, the Romanian community of Milan, enjoyed the traditions and cuisine of Maramures.

Youngsters from “Road Trip Project", visiting successfully implemented projects in Maramureș

“Road Trip Project" at its second edition in 2019, is financed by the European Commission through Regio General Directorate and it supports youngsters to engage in a unique adventure to travel through Europe. The itinerary comprises of 17 countries that have several European funded projects already implemented. On the 20th of September 2019, a team of youngsters explored the newly equipped Astronomy Centre of Baia Mare.

School Camp for Youngsters and Students from Moldova Republic

30 students from Florești and Hîncești district, participated to an international school camp in a mountainous area between 1st-6th of August. The camp was organized with the support of the Maramures Department for Schools and financed by our institution as to promote our traditions and values while constantly promoting a common sense of belonging and common history.

A delegation of Maramures to Vatican City and a Papal Audience

On the 23rd of October 2018, within a project that highlighted the figure of Vasile Lucaciu priest, a local promotor of the Union of our country, representatives of Maramures country were able to attend a papal audience in San Pietro Square of Vatican, together with hundreds of pilgrims worldwide. On this occasion, our representatives had the unique occasion to officially meet Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, the Prefect of the Oriental Churches Congregation that is responsible for coordinating the specific religious activity in our country.

The project "Young Belgians in România – Maramureș”

The project „Young Belgians in România – Maramureș”, was a partnership of Maramures County Council and „Solidarite Horia-Quevy” NGO from Belgium, active in our country since 1996, in organizing activities involving the local community (2008, 2009, 2010, 2013)
  • Between July-August 2008, 3 camps of volunteers were organized in: Câmpulung la Tisa, Călinești and Coaș.
  • Between July-August 2009, 4 camps of volunteers were organized in: Botiza, Baia Sprie, Cavnic, Vima Mică. In this year, Maramures hosted the largest number of volunteers from thins network.
  • In 2010, 6 camps of volunteers were organized in: Baia Sprie, Cavnic, Fărcașa, Cernești, Groși și Vima Mică.
  • In July 2013 a camp was organized in Valea Chioarului.

COLABORATIONS WITH REGIONS FROM THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

Maramures County Council’s President visiting Hubei Province (China)

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bucharest enhanced the participation of the representatives of Maramures County, led by our president to a working visit in Wuhan city between 16th-21st of October 2018. The aim of this visit was to participate to the World Forum of Production Capacities and Business Cooperation, an event that hosted participants from more than 50 de countries. The forum debated promoting patterns for international cooperation in the field of R&D, innovation, biotechnology, industrial equipment and renewable energies.

Lead Architect of Maramureș County Council attend a training in China

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bucharest enhanced the participation of several representatives of local and central administration to a training in the field of construction and architecture that took place in Jiangxi region between 29th of November - 8th of December 2019. The training was organized by the College of Foreign Studies and focused to develop connections in this field to the benefit of the represented communities.

Businessmen from Maramureș met a Delegation of the People’s Republic of China

On the 25th of April 2017, 20 business from Maramureș met a delegation of representatives of the economic sector from China in various fields of common interest. From the Maramures business environment participated representatives of companies in the field of electricity and electrical engineering, foundry, mechanical processing, mattress production, water treatment and purification, construction, wooden constructions, design, consulting, IT, food industry, tourism, hotels and restaurants, trade, prints, education, real estate investments, extraction and processing of ornamental rocks, honey products.

The Forum of the Local Authorities of China and of Central and Eastern Europe

The Forum of the Local Authorities of China and of Central and Eastern Europe in Chongqing between 2nd-5th of July 2013.

The event reunited participants from 16 countries introducing projects in the field of economy, science, technology and agriculture. Our delegation was led by the President of Maramures County Council in order to establish contacts with the business environment of China. This visit was a first contact with the Chinese business environment, consequently a common declaration for future cooperation was assumed in order to encourage direct exchanges.
